Río Bogotá

DETALLES DEL PROYECTO

Installation in which an orographic representation code is turned into a sound production code using the “musical box” mechanism. In its realization, the craftwork (leatherwork) was combined with technological processes (material size using a CND router). As part of a series of works on dead rivers, this piece takes up the outline of the Bogotá River, an urban river considered one of the most polluted in the world.

Río Bogotá (Bogotá River) consists of two representations of the truncated orography of the channel of this river, one of them traced on a piece of “clean” leather (tanned by hand without chemical products, since one of the reasons for the death of this river is the poisoning of the water by the illegal shedding’s produced by tanneries). The other is a musical box, whose cylinder has carved the same orography “translated” to the bumps of the mechanism. The sound that takes place when turning the crank of the musical box comes from the shape of the riverbed.
