The Sonorous Object is a video piece based on Robert Fludd’s engravings of his most famous work Utriusque Cosmi (The Story of the Two Words) from 1617.
Using the surface of the illustrations as terrain, details are navigated with the camera. The script is written as a tale or legend and combines poetic considerations about the macrocosm and the microcosm (both worlds represented in Fludd’s engravings), and some ideas from cosmic philosophy, Paracelsian alchemy, and mathematical combinatorics. For the image, a series of experiments were recorded on the surface of a copper plate and vinyl records, using an electron microscope and analog lenses.
