DETALLES DEL PROYECTO

Sewing and embroidery are recurrent in Candiani’s work. Protesters emerged in 2019, with the “Glitter Revolution” that involved massive protests following the rape of a young girl by the Mexico City police. This series recovers press photos of women shouting in feminist protests around the world. Bodies, embroidered with cotton thread on fabric and individualized and separated from their original context, make their presence felt in a visual contingent of resistance and color, whose scale intimidates us. For the artist, the thread and the act of sewing constitute a way of amplifying the drawing, of “drawing out loud.” The strength of these bodies in struggle that raise their voices and demand to be heard connects with Candiani’s ideas on feminisms as community. The gestures of this collective of female revolutionaries invite us to listen in unison.
