Habita intervenido

2008

Intervention. Freestyle, stencil and spray paint on glass.
Hotel Habita, Mexico City.

This gesture of appropiation of the exterior glass walls of a fancy hotel, by a group of taggers, was an statement of conquered territory. A metaphoric way of inhabit, through their taggs, as temporary guests in this hotel placed in one of the most exclusive neighborhoods of the city.

During the process we discussed concepts and definitions about identity, personal history and city barriers. This project aims to bring attention to the potential beauty of the "freestyle graffiti" and to create a discussion about how certain forms of visual expression have had prioritized over others. The project demonstrated and questioned how is that the circumstances can turn something in fashion when indeed most of the time is perceived as vandalism. The hotel was covered with taggs over four months.
